This is dedicated to friends and family who have died. The video is the mantle of the house I grew up in, which stayed basically the same for 40 years. The photo must be from 2002 because there are some trinkets from my time in Amsterdam. The other photo is from when my brother cleared out the house to sell. The sight of the bare wall in cold light after so much many years of life was powerful. The feeling of removing each object, and then the residue of the objects coming back like ghosts before being gone forever, was, I think, a good way to express this feeling of loss. When I made the video both my parents (my dad long ago, my mom recently) and one of my brothers had died, as well as my wife's Molly's brother Dan and her uncle Chip. Some other friends and family have died since then.
