This mode of playing comes from when I was in a folk/punk band called Meisce in Seattle in the early 2000s. Most of the band members were in punk bands as well, and we were always on bills with hardcore bands. I got deeper into it in NYC when I arranged Slayer's Raining Blood for my group String Power (there's a video of this on YouTube). This piece also hints at Black Sabbath's The Wizard (another song I arranged for String Power). The title comes from a situation I was in with the family cat. She was angry with me because I picked her up. A mouse appeared under a chair, missing its head. We figured the mouse was a "surrogate" for me...
